The letter C in my Christine X alphabet series is released today.
I’m really happy as it got played on BBC 6 Music on Wednesday night, by Gideon Coe. Which is of course entirely correct as it is Gideon’s voice which features on the recording.
The track is based around a radio interview between myself and Gideon on his drive time show on Greater London Radio in January 2001.
It was a very cold January evening when we did the radio interview. I ran out from our sound check and was pacing around outside Dingwalls in Camden, trying to keep warm. I was also talking to Gideon live on air. We discussed the recording of the new It’s Jo and Danny album, the follow-up to ‘Lank Haired Girl To Bearded Boy’, and the gig we were due to play that night.
The acoustic guitar was recorded at Bark Studio in Walthamstow a couple of years ago with Brian O’Shaughnessy and I added the synths, drum machines, bass and electric guitar tracks over the last year or so in my home studio. For the Christine X project, I’m using old cassette recordings and various musical bits and pieces, chopping them up and putting them into Logic, then adding instruments to turn them into something new.
Musically the track is based around the DADGAD folk guitar tuning (which I also used across The Yellow Moon Band album)
Jason Glenister made the wonderful film.
‘Camden‘ joins previously released ‘Bluetrain‘ and ‘Aldershot‘, you can hear them all on Spotify.
They are also available through all the usual digital platforms.
