Green Man Festival 2003 – 2005
In August 2003 Danny Hagan and myself held the first Green Man Festival in Craig Y Nos Castle in the rugged edge of the Brecon Beacons, where we lived. It was a wonderful day and night of music, film and literature in the Welsh mountains.
The festival grew year on year and some of the many artists we booked include, Robert Plant, The National, Bon Iver, The Flaming Lips, Wilco, Animal Collective, Mumford and Sons, Laura Marling, James Blake, Four Tet, Bonnie ‘Prince’ Billy, Fleet Foxes, Super Furry Animals, Billy Bragg, Jarvis Cocker and so many more. We grew it from 1 day and under 500 people in 2003 to 4 days and nights and 15,000 attendees in 2011. Danny and I moved on from the Green Man in November 2011.
I’m only going to write about the first three festivals in detail: 2003 – 2005. From its conception in 2002 up until the insanity of 2005. After that we moved site again, (to the beautiful Glan Usk where it remains today), we got a team around us and things changed. It’s what it took from us and out of us in those early years, I want to capture.
Having shared my own memories of those early years, I decided it would be interesting to hear other people’s experiences at Green Man. I invited any one who was at the 2006 festival to send me their memories and photos.
2007 – 2011 TO BE ADDED OVER TIME.
