Kicked off X!

Update July 2024 – I did start a new account on X but then decided to cancel it along with The Wake account after the riots in the UK – Elon Musk is a foul human being and I want nothing to do with him.

Anyone following me on X – they have booted me off for the music videos I was posting. I had got to 29.6k followers, a project I started in earnest in December 2022, when I was on about 2k. I was never making any money from it and always included the full YouTube links along with the videos. Just for the love of it really.

I decided to see how I would get on, downloading, editing and sharing great music. It worked very well – by NYE 2022, just a few weeks into the project, I had risen to 10k. There were some special videos I shared that went mad in front of my eyes – Mike Scott singing ‘The Whole of the Moon‘ to an audience of schoolchildren in Clifden, Connemara, Ireland in 1987, was one.

It was great fun at first, each morning when I turned my ‘phone on, I was gaining hundreds of new followers. It was always lovely when people would message me saying how much they liked what I was doing.

I gained a wealth of famous followers, musicians I loved, tv presenters and journalists among them.

Alison Moyet and Paul Heaton discussing strange European tv shows they had been on in the ’80s under one of my posts.

Lloyd Cole, Edwyn Collins, Terry Christian, Caitlin Moran, Pete Paphides, Will Hodgkinson, John Niven, David Quantick, Badly Drawn Boy, Andy Bell, Michael Rosen, Gary Crowley, Paul Heaton, Lauren Lavern, Jo Whiley. And a few more I can’t remember and can’t check now!

All gone.

To be honest, I was starting to wonder why I was doing it. Initially it had been to get more people to see my own music or a new piece of writing I had on this blog, but the popularity of other people’s music greatly outweighed my own. I was having to get up early to organise and then schedule my posts before starting my actual job. I did get warned a few times but it was always only a click to get back until, finally last week, it was over.

I have a new account: https://twitter.com/JoBMusician

I’d be very grateful if you would like to follow me. This time I won’t be sharing videos I have downloaded though, my music, my writing and stuff I love that won’t get me kicked off again!

Gary Crowley has retweeted my new account and is following me – thanks Gary. I don’t know if I’ll get the other famous people back again, I’m on just under 300 followers since last week – thanks so much to all of them, it means a lot.

I have a new event – The Wake that Danny and I are organising, the first one taking place on 27 July this year, so my early mornings now go into that, it is a blessing in disguise really, so thanks X.

My new album, ‘Ghost Tapes 1 to 9‘ is out on 26 April, I’m hoping I can let as many people as I can know about it via my socials. My new single, ‘One In A Hundred‘ precedes it on 5th April.

Upwards and onwards!

X (that’s a kiss, not Elon’s stupid social media site – no, I’m not bitter 😉 )
