7″ Singles: Aztec Camera ‘Mattress of Wire’

Label – Postcard Records Cat. No. Postcard 81-8 Year of Release -1981

I was a fan of Glasgow’s Postcard Records and had quite a few of the 7″s, including their first record, released in 1980, ‘Falling and Laughing‘ by Orange Juice. There were only 1,000 pressed and I got mine after seeing it reviewed in Smash Hits magazine. It was sent to me by Postcard’s Alan Horne and I’m pretty sure it was the last one. It came with a photo of Orange Juice and a hand printed postcard.

My first day at Our Price Records was in their Woking branch, November 1985. I flicked through their 7″ singles section, at the front just on the other side of the counter. I couldn’t believe my eyes when I saw they had ‘Mattress of Wire‘! It had been out for four years and was already collectable. So it was my first (of many) purchase as a staff member.
