Label –Pop Aural Cat. No. POP10 Year of Release -1981
At 14, I was a fan of the Scottish independent scene, owning a couple of records on the Postcard label. I had read about the Fire Engines but had never heard them. I bought this 7″ from a small record shop in Oban, on the West coast of Scotland. I was with my family and we were on our way to the Isle of Barra, where my Dad was from and where we went for four weeks each summer. The Caledonian MacBrayne‘s ferry journey is six hours, sometimes more. There was no record player in our house on the island, so I kept the record in it’s little shop bag without hearing it.
I waited until we were back home in Surrey to give it it’s first play and I loved it.
The single also includes ‘Meat Whiplash‘, and is housed in a fold-out picture cover with instructions on the reverse for how to turn it into a carton.
