New Music: Midlife ‘Phase II’

Here’s a tripped out way to start your Saturday! From Melbourne based band, Midlife, this is ‘Phase ll’ released yesterday on Research Records.

The song was inspired by the album track ‘Phase’ from their eponymous debut record that was released in the Spring of 2018. Artist, Dan Wild, explains the excellent video that illustrates the new song:

The intention for the ‘Phase II’ video was to traverse constructed landscapes that follow the tracks progression. Visually I wanted to pull focus through artificial forests, canyons and clouds. Pushing the concept of an abstracted first person journey that I feel the band is presenting with the song.

Combining hand drawn animation and analog video processing techniques gives the video a tactile feeling that compliments the tracks long form nature. I felt the music was able to breathe by using these techniques, I was very conscious of the video becoming either to overpowering or underwhelming.

They still have some dates left on their European tour:

Here they are again with ‘The Magnificent Moon’ which came out in January. Very cool indeed….blissed out and well groovy – enjoy!
